Foundations And Principles Of Islamc For Creating A Happy Family: An Analytical Approach
Abstract
This article explores how the family, as the fundamental unit of society, can be established with happiness and stability in light of Islamic teachings. Although family definitions vary according to cultural, social, and contextual factors, social science literature emphasizes that the family is the basic unit of society and a microcosm of human social life. This study integrates social science approaches with the perspectives of the Qur’an, Sunnah, and classical Islamic scholars to elucidate the Islamic foundations for a happy family life. The main objective of the study is to examine the theoretical and practical dimensions of the core Islamic principles that contribute to family happiness, including love (mawaddah), compassion (rahmah), tranquility (sakina), responsibility, consultation, patience, forgiveness, economic stability, and spiritual ethics. Furthermore, the study investigates the roles and responsibilities of family members—husband, wife, and children—and how these contribute to family cohesion and happiness. Specifically, the guiding role of the father, the emotional support of the mother, and the dutiful behavior of children are highlighted as essential for family stability. Moreover, the study emphasizes the exemplary family life of the Prophet (PBUH), showing that an Islamic family is not only a theoretical construct but also a practical, implementable model of living. Hadiths and Prophetic practices demonstrate that love, humor, mutual respect, and balance between husband and wife are central to a harmonious family life. This article concludes that a happy family is achieved only when Islamic spiritual values and social science principles are integrated. A family structured according to Islamic teachings provides a strong foundation that ensures both individual well-being and societal stability.
