Abstract

Bayt al-Hikmah, during the Abbasid Caliphate in Baghdad from 750 to 1258 CE, stands as a prominent research and cultural institution in the Arab and Islamic world. Initially established by Caliph Harun al-Rashid and flourishing under Caliphs al-Ma'mun and al-Mansur, it evolved into a center for translation, scholarship, and intellectual discourse. This article explores its historical significance, focusing on its role in advancing Islamic scientific and philosophical knowledge through translation initiatives, educational reforms, and the establishment of a vast library that housed over 300,000 manuscripts. The legacy of Bayt al-Hikmah extends beyond its time, influencing subsequent scholarly centers across the Islamic world.Bayt al-Hikmah, during the Abbasid Caliphate in Baghdad from 750 to 1258 CE, stands as a prominent research and cultural institution in the Arab and Islamic world.
